Introduction

The original TIX Clock was manufactured by CubeRoot from 2005 to 2014. For many years, my 2 copies were stored in a box because I was not satisfied with the function and the blue LEDs had lost their luminosity.

In 2024, I started a new attempt and developed a completely new circuit board for the TIX Clock. The aim was to continue using the original housing.

New Circuit Board

The main features of the new circuit board for the TIX Clock are:

• Display time (hours, minutes) or date (month, day)
• LEDs with RGBW (red, green, blue, white)
• Colors of the LEDs can be configured as desired
• Manual or automatic LED brightness with light sensor
• Night switch-off with defined dark period
• NTP time synchronization (requires WLAN and Internet connection)
• Configuration via integrated web server
• Sensors for temperature, humidity and air quality, MQTT Publisher
• Power supply via USB-A (2 A, 5V DC, USB cable included in the scope of delivery, USB adapter not included in the scope of delivery)
• Replacement tool screwdriver, no soldering required

The following video and pictures show an original TIX at the bottom and the TIX with the new circuit board at the top.

The TIX Clock is now supplied with power via a USB cable (type A). The cable is available in black and white and in lengths of 0.5m, 1m and 1.5m.

A few key points about the technology used:

• Raspberry Pi Pico W
• Software in Micropython and Javascript
• Platine Eagle 7.7.0

Availability / Price

A one-off series of boards is planned for summer 2024. The cost of 1 circuit board is in the range of CHF 70-100 excluding shipping costs.

Included in delivery are:

• 1x TIX circuit board complete
• 1x Brightness sensor to TIX circuit board (approx. 20cm cable)
• 1x USB cable with USB-A connector (black or white, length 0.5m, 1m or 1.5m)
